The Statewide Parent Advocacy Network (SPAN) provides information, training, technical assistance, support and leadership development for families and professionals on education and health issues affecting New Jersey's children, ages 0-21. SPAN's focus is on children at greatest risk due to disability, poverty, discrimination, or other special needs. SPAN is New Jersey's federally-funded Parent Information and Training Center for parents of children with special needs, and the Goals 2000 Parent Information and Resource Center for all parents. SPAN houses New Jersey's Family Voices chapter, sponsors New Jersey Statewide Parent to Parent, and is a member of the Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health, and National Parent Network on Disabilities, and the National Coalition of Advocates for Students. A Community Resource Center is operated in Somers Point, Atlantic County, NJ, by SPAN. A trained volunteer SPAN Resource Parent is available to assist families with educational and other SPAN-related activities. Contact Mary Ann Philippi at (609) 641-1877 or (609) 926-4584 x123 for information and office hours of the Parent Resource Center. Updated using agency web site: 2004.
