You are eligible for a New Jersey homestead rebate if your domicile (or permanent legal residence) is in New Jersey and you meet the following conditions: Your gross income for all of 2003 is $200,000 or less if you are a homeowner. (if you are a tenant, your income must be $100,000 or less), and; you maintain a principal residence in this State as either a homeowner or tenant during the tax year and; you maintain a principal residence in this State as either a homeowner or tenant during the tax year, and; your principal residence, whether owned or rented, is subject to local property taxes, and property taxes are paid on that residence either as actual property taxes or through rent, and; your principal residence is a full living unit with its own separate kitchen and bathroom. If you are required to file a New Jersey income tax return, you must complete the homestead rebate application and file it at the same time you file your New Jersey income tax return (generally April 15). If you have requested an extension of time to file your State income tax return, the filing deadline for your rebate application is also extended. File your rebate application with your State income tax return on or before the extended due date. If you are not required to file a New Jersey income tax return because your income is below the minimum filing threshold, you need only complete and file the Homestead Rebate Application, Form HR-1040, to apply for a homestead rebate. In this case you have an additional nine months beyond the usual April 15 deadline to file your application. You may also file your homestead rebate application through NJ WebFile, provided you file by October 15. New Jersey residents are not eligible for homestead rebates if no property taxes are paid on their dwellings. OTHER RESTRICTIONS APPLY.
