New Jersey State Department of Health and Senior Services - Division of Vital Statistics receives and files all records of births, deaths and marriages for the State of New Jersey. Certified copies of these records can be issued at a cost of $4.00 per copy. Records may be obtained in the following ways: 1) via by mail using cash or money order in US funds, processing time is 6-8 weeks; 2) in person at the office located in Trenton, NJ, processing time two hours; and 3) via VitalChek express services which must be charged to a major credit card. There is an additional processing fee for this service. You order through VitalChek at 877-572-6342, fax 609-392-4292 or Internet by http://www.vitalchek.com - you must provide your credit card number, expiration date and billing address with all VitalChek requests. You must supply a copy of your photo driver's license or two alternate forms of identification with address and you must state your relationship to the individual named on the certificate you're requesting. For genealogical (births occurring over 80 years ago, marriages occurring over 50 years ago, and deaths occurring over 40 years ago) requests you must provide at minimum the name recorded on the certificate, the year in which the event occurred and the county in which the event occurred. If you are able to provide a specific date or city it is preferred but not required. For non-genealogical requests you must provide the exact name as it appears on the certificate, the exact date of occurrance, the exact place the event occurred and the names of the parents of the individual listed on the certificate. (For the mother's name, please provide the maiden name).
